The Biblical Narratives of Darren Aronofsky
What is Darren Aronofsky up to?
This analysis looks at the Biblical symbolism and archetypal narratives found in his work to answer that question.
*** Minor Spoiler Warning***
This video touches on some of the basic plot points in "Pi", "The Fountain", "Noah", and "Mother!". I don't believe it contains anything that would spoil those films if you haven't seen them yet. And you should really see them.

That's Mr X
the one HUGE advice I can tell to first-time viewers of this series is: don't expect it to fulfill the need for more Lost. They have a few thematic similarities but are largely different series.
What amazing analyze thanks
well done sir
Season 2 might be the best season of any show.
Thank you for this. Watched all 3 parts
Love the art, love the music, everything! Amazing video
Art, pure art of a video ❤
This video is sublime, I love you. Thank you for contributing with such an amazing content
Amazing video
The videos you make are just beautiful, why haven't you made more?
What’s the song playing in the background around 30 seconds?
Amazing analysis. it's given me a deeper appreciation for this show and I already loved it
I feel like there's some intended parallel between David Burton pushing the (an anonymous?) stranger overboard from the Tasman ferry and Kevin pushing Patti into the well in his dream, but have no idea what to make of it beside a further hint at their duality.
I just finished watching the Leftovers and I am amazed and deeply moved. Everything was extraordinary but I especially loved the soundtrack and the actor directing.
Can you do the psychology of Meg?
incredible. who knew the leftovers made sense?
This analysis is truly amazing. Do you know Damon Lindelof personally? The leftovers is the greatest series ever to be shown on TV.
"Duck's go down, then up". Duck's quack, just like quarks. Quarks are the building blocks of protons. Some quarks are up, some down. I'm really down the rabbit hole here.
The world ended after a Thermo Nuclear war. The 2 percent split into a mirror universe, the 98 percent split into a different universe. The place Kevin went to is the past through the Axis Mundi. The fire alarm; the balloons for Mary's child. This place represents the Quantum world, where everything is possible. All it needs is an observer. Us?
I think those who departed had one thing in common -- Someone had wished they would disappear. Including the baby in the opening scene, the pregnancy of Ms Garvey, the laidy having affair with Mr Garvey, and Nora's whole family. If you rewatch, everyone was having a hard time at the moment, and was probably wishing their trouble would disappear. That's why people felt so much guilt and can't move on. But they could never admit that thought to anyone.
Perhaps that's why it's ironic, because Kevin's family remained complete, despite the fact that he is the most cowardly person who wanted to run away from everything. (Their last son with Lorrie has departed)
Absolutely brilliant
So glad my love of leftovers found me this channel
These are not Easter eggs. Easter eggs are inconsequential. You have set out a central thesis. It’s breathtaking
Minor mistake: the deer that Kevin Witnesses being killed by the dogs is not the same deer as in the flasback episode. The deer in the flashback episode gets hit by a car and Kevin then kills it.
I wish you could continue making these, i love them so much.
Why have you stopped?
I worked on seasons 1 & 3 from the HBO side - but didn't watch the series until after I left. I liked season 1, really liked season 2, & absolutely loved season 3. Other than Season 1 of "True Detective" (my all-time single-season) I think season 3 of "The Leftovers" is one of the best of all time. I remember when the International assassin tells the President to kill him " So he (real-world Kevin) never has to come back here" I just burst into tears - it was that powerful of a metaphor for how a part of your psyche can hinder you in your life - how you self-sabotage your relationships again & again - and if you keep it up you'll end up alone, like the "hero" of "Untitled Romance Novel", if you don't find a way to change the flawed parts of yourself...naturally the last episode was devastating to me - yet somehow hopeful & reassuring - it isn't too late, do the work & you may find happiness.
In reference to Kevin. To quote an even better deeply symbolic & psychological drama from HBO - True Detective season 1 "Do you ever wonder maybe if you're a bad man?" "No. The world needs bad men - we keep the other bad men away from the door".
The show failed to explain a couple of things. What's up with the national geographic book? Also how tf are all the dogs synchronized and crazy in season 1? Also wtf was up with the into scene to season 2?
How dare you cut the video before Nora speaks the final line of s2.
what is the background music used at around 3 mins in?
How about Azazel who was inside Nora? Wtf that meant?!
Hey brother, I notice you have not posted anything else in some time but I love your analysis on "The Leftovers". You've also got a great voice for this, there are so many videos I need to turn off 30 seconds in because I find that "youtube accent" so grating. Anyway, I just wanted to send some encouragement your way.
This show hits different after the pandemic, where casually 2% of the population died
this is one of my favourite shows and I love your analysis of it. have you perchance seen twin peaks? I think you'd enjoy that too and I would love to hear you talk about it
Great video. Thanks for doing this.
This show is so so so misunderstood and so underrated , it makes me just feel a deep sense of disappointment and loneliness knowing that most of the world, whilst so quick to jump on to anything else, largely ignored and continue to ignore this show. It’s a masterpiece. IMO.
I Literally cried at the end of this third sequence on Kevin and the Leftovers. I loved that show though I didn't understand thru mystery of it all. Thanks for casting light on the deeper meaning of this saga it's truly beautiful.
A few years ago I bought this copy of National Geographic, it was like $90 compared to every other edition around that time being available for $10. Happy I bought it and good to know that there are enough fans to make it worth something.
Laurie looks like Courtney Cox if she never got plastic surgery…. And to be clear ladies, Laurie’s natural ‘aged’ look is far more attractive to most men than an older woman whose face looks all melted and swollen in all the wrong places because she decided she needed surgery to still appear young, even tho all it did was let everyone know that you’re an old hag clinging onto the very last remnants of youthful attraction. It’s similar to fake boobs, but even fake boobs look good when theyre* clothed, where as the plastic face always looks bad. Another note on fake boobs, I can’t speak for all men, but for me it’s a huge turnoff when I find out someone has fake boobs. I’d much prefer “flat as a board” to big fake boobs. And also it bothers me that when a woman gets fake boobs, she’s literally only doing it so men find her attractive when she has clothes on. However, since they often look hideous without clothes on, the woman is sacrificing the joy that her husband/future husband gets from looking at her naked body, all so that strangers look at her and think “nice boobs”
One Easter egg I noticed, in the final episode Kevin mentions to Nora that he had a heart attack and had a pacemaker implanted, and he offers to show Nora the scar. In the second to last episode while Kevin is in the afterlife/other world/whatever, his "identical twin" has a scar from where they implanted the nuclear launch key, but his scar looks identical to a scar that you would get from a pacemaker implant.
this is not what a aster egg means bro. this is more of a cool paralel or a detail. not an inside joke or omage to something els
@@g.henriquecosta983what the fuck is an omage? You mean “hommage”? I don’t think you know that word bro…it’s a French word meaning “tribute”…
I just finished watching the Leftovers yesterday and I think there's another mention of Ciaro. In season 3, during Kevin Sr's episode when he's outside of the post office, he places something in a magazine and I'm pretty sure the page says Ciaro!
Amazing video, you're interpretation of the film mother is spot on, and more real than most would think.
I think one other Easter Egg is when Kevin Sr comes across the black VW Beetle in the outback, and the owner sets it and himself on fire. The episode is called Crazy Whitefella Thinking, and this scene is extremely similar to the 1971 movie called Walkabout, right down to the black VW and the driver burning it and himself in the outback. That movie explores Western Whiteman’s behavior/ideals as compared to the Aboriginal man…and fits in with the title Crazy Whitefella Thinking.
Yeah I dont think everyone understood that reference but it was honestly hilarious for me how they snuck a random walkabout easter egg in there
Love easter eggs😅
This is just a fantastic break down
Finally a good explained video!
Whoah, tell me how people are even able something so deep and interesting ? How to write such a good story?
Nothing fascinates me more than law of physics and human’s psycho
